Announcement regarding next stages of Junior Science Olympiad (Updated on 25 September 2021)
The following announcements are made with regard to the next stages of the Junior Science Olympiad.
A. Online Orientation Camp:
An online Junior Science Olympiad Orientation Camp (JSOOC) will be held from 29 September to 3 October 2021. This camp will include lectures, tutorials and experimental orientation sessions relevant for the Junior Science Olympiad.
No selection tests will be held during this camp.
All students between the ranks of 1 to 35 (both inclusive) in Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Junior Science (IOQJS) Part II will be invited to participate in this camp (see list below). They will also receive the INO Certificate of Merit. The list of these students is given below.
All students maintaining a minimum of 80% attendance in the online JSOOC will receive a Certificate of Participation.
B. Participation in International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO):
As of now, it is expected that an Indian team of six students will participate in the online mode in IJSO, scheduled during 12-21 December, 2021 (subject to conditions declared by IJSO). However, the pandemic situation will be reviewed again closer to the date of IJSO, and a final decision will be taken regarding participation in this event.
C. Selection of Indian team for IJSO:
The selection of the Indian team for IJSO will be made on the basis of a combination of scores in IOQJS Part II (40% weightage) and a set of selection tests to be held at HBCSE during 23-24 October 2021, 30-31 October 2021, called Junior Science Olympiad Selection Tests (JSOST) (60% weightage). Each test score, including IOQJS Part II will be scaled by the corresponding median score of the participating students. Students are offered the option of skipping JSOST — in that case, the IOQJS Part II score will carry 100% weightage for such students.
Details of JSOST and the method of calculating scores are given in the Guidelines for Selection of Indian team for IJSO 2021. Students are required to read this document carefully. They will be required to register for JSOST prior to JSOOC.
Only students satisfying the following criteria will be invited for JSOST and will be eligible for selection in the Indian team for IJSO.
a) The student must be eligible to hold an Indian passport;
b) The student is ranked 35th or higher in the merit list of IOQJS Part II;
c) The student must attend the JSOOC with minimum 80% attendance;
d) The student must not have participated in any other International Olympiad in 2021.
Since the pandemic situation in the country is still evolving, the plans for JSOST must be treated as provisional at present. A final decision regarding holding of JSOST will be announced on 15 October 2021. In case JSOST is cancelled, IOQJS Part II scores will be applicable for all students to select the team of six students for IJSO. If there is a tie for the last position(s), the scores of IOQJS Part I will be used to break the tie.
List of students invited to participate in online JSOOC
This list is arranged according to IOQ Roll Number and does NOT indicate ranks in IOQJS Part II. The cutoff score for this list (corresponding to rank 35) is 54.0, and the median score of these students is 59.0. These students will receive further details about the online JSOOC and registration for JSOST by September 25, 2021. There is no need to contact HBCSE before that.

Announcement regarding next stages of Astronomy Olympiad (Updated on August 09, 2021)
The following announcements are made with regard to the next stages of the Astronomy Olympiad. Announcements regarding Junior Science Olympiad are expected to be made AFTER August 20, 2021.
A. Online Orientation Camp:
An online Astronomy Olympiad Orientation Camp (AOOC) will be held from 12 to 23 July, 2021.
No selection tests will be held during or after this camp.
All students between the ranks of 1 to 100 (both inclusive) in Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Astronomy (IOQA) Part II will be invited to participate in this camp (see list below). They will also receive the INO Certificate of Merit. The list of these students are given below.
All students maintaining a minimum of 80% attendance in the online AOOC will receive a Certificate of Participation.
B. Participation in International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA):
As of now, it is expected that an Indian team of five students will participate in the online mode in IOAA, scheduled in November, 2021 (subject to conditions declared by IOAA). However, the pandemic situation will be reviewed again closer to the date of IOAA, and a final decision will be taken regarding participation in this event.
C. Selection of Indian team for IOAA:
The selection of the Indian team for IOAA will be made on the basis of the merit list of IOQA Part II, as per the following conditions:
a) The student must attend the AOOC with minimum 80% attendance;
b) The student must not have participated in any other International Olympiad in 2021;
c) The student must be an Indian citizen;
d) The student is among the top five in the merit list of IOQA Part II who satisfy the above three conditions.
List of students invited to participate in online AOOC
This list of ranks is based purely on the marks obtained in IOQA Part II and includes both Group A (Class 12) and Group B (Class 11 and lower) students. All students in both groups who would have been eligible for selection in the Astronomy OCSC under normal circumstances according to the criteria announced earlier are included in this list. In addition, more students have been added to extend the benefits of an online camp. No rank will be published below 100.
If there are n (n>1) students occupying the same rank, the next (n-1) rank(s) is/are skipped. These students will receive further details about the online AOOC by July 7, 2021. There is no need to contact HBCSE before that.
