Students of which class are eligible to write mathematical olympiad ?

Students of Class VIII to XII (8-12) are eligible to appear for the first stage of mathematical olympiad provided they fulfill other criteria.

Is a student who takes a break after passing Class XII (12)(Board Exam) and is not enrolled in University or planning to take Class 12  exam again (for improvement) eligible to appear?

NO. 

If you have passed Class 12, you are no longer eligible, even if you have taken a break and not enrolled in college, or if you are planning to take the Class 12 exam for improvement.

Are there any exam centers abroad? Or 

How can a student residing abroad appear for Mathematical Olympiad Examinations?

NO, If the student is residing abroad and is studying in an Indian school system then the student will have to come to India to write IOQM 2023 and the examinations of the subsequent stages (i.e Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) 2023 and Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) 2024) in case s/he qualifies for these examinations. The student will be regarded as one who has enrolled from the Delhi-NCR and the same selection criteria for RMO 2023 and INMO 2024 will apply to him/her as for any student residing and studying in India who has enrolled from Delhi-NCR. The student will have to bear the expenses for the onward journey to India and the return journey from India.

What is the registration fee for IOQM?

The fee is charged for the first stage, there are no fees for subsequent stages if qualified.

Yes, They will get an INMO Awardee (IA) Certificate.

Is it possible to obtain previous year’s admit card / hall ticket for any stage of mathematical olympiad examinations?

No. Students are advised to retain their admit card for future needs.  The request to generate admit cards again will not be entertained for any stages of mathematical olympiads.

Can I apply for re-evaluation?

Yes, students can apply for re-evaluation. The window period for re-evaluation will be published/updated on our website : https://olympiads.hbcse.tifr.res.in

Can I appeal again after re-evaluation?

NO. Once the marks are finalized after re-evaluation, there will be no change in whatsoever manner.  Please note that no query or representation in this regard will be entertained.

Are Home School students eligible to appear for mathematical olympiads?

Yes, provided they fulfill all other eligibility criteria.

Is there any training conducted by HBCSE for students who appear for mathematical olympiads?

Yes

  1. Training camps called INMOTC are conducted before INMO & held at regional levels. INMOTC for Mumbai region is conducted by HBCSE.
  2. A month-long training camp IMOTC in summer for INMO Awardees (IA). 
  3. And a Pre-Departure Training camp for (Top 6) students representing India.

What are the career opportunities if we clear IOQM, RMO, INMO?

The Olympiads do not lead directly to any career benefits; rather, they provide a stimulus to begin a career in science or mathematics, to undertake a lifelong journey into the realms of exciting intellectual challenges.

Can I represent India at International Olympiads in multiple subjects organized by HBCSE?

No, not in the same year. In a particular year, based on your preferences during registration, you can appear in multiple subjects upto pre-final stage i.e INMO level. A student can participate in the orientation/training/selection of only one subject (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, junior science) according to a preference order decided by the student himself/herself.  Hence, if selected to the final Indian team, he/she can represent India at the International Olympiads in any one subject.

However, students can represent India at other International Olympiads not organized by HBCSE (APhO, Earth Science, Informatics, IAO) provided the dates of international events do not clash.

Can an OCI/PIO appear for mathematical olympiads?

As per the orders of the Madras High Court, students with OCI status will not be eligible for selection to the Indian team in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), Asian Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO). However, such students are provisionally eligible for selection at ALL prior stages, up to and including the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) and European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (EGMOTC) provided they fulfill all other criteria. They are also provisionally eligible to write the selection tests at the IMOTC and EGMOTC. This policy is subject to revision without prior notice depending on any further orders issued by the courts, or by a competent Government authority.

Are students who are enrolled in a polytechnic diploma (diploma after 10th) eligible for PRMO/IOQM ?

Students admitted for 3 years Diploma after Class X are not eligible to enroll for IOQM

Is a student with an Indian passport enrolled in a foreign board abroad eligible to participate in the Mathematical Olympiad?

NO

Is a student with an Indian passport studying in the Indian school system abroad, eligible to participate in a mathematical olympiad?

YES, provided he/she fulfills other eligibility criteria.

Is a student with an Indian passport studying in India enrolled in foreign board eligible to participate in a mathematical olympiad?

YES, provided he/she fulfills other eligibility criteria.

If a student changes his/her school during the academic year due to whatever reasons, will his region or center of exam be changed?

If the region of the student is identified, it cannot be changed in subsequent stages.
