November 16 – 19, 2026
Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) is a National Centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. The broad goals of the Centre are to promote equity and excellence in science and mathematics education from primary school to undergraduate college level. It is India’s nodal centre for Olympiad programmes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Astronomy.
We are happy to invite applications from Junior college/High school teachers (teaching chemistry from class X to XII) for the Chemistry Olympiad Exposure Camp to be held from November 16-19, 2026 at HBCSE, Mumbai. Teachers employed in schools/junior college recognized by state or central government education boards are eligible to apply.
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) has been a movement for pre-university students. By presenting challenging problems in experimental and theoretical areas, it engages learners in problem solving culture and thus, excites them about the domain of chemistry. The science (and chemistry) Olympiad program is equally challenging for the teaching community. For designing unconventional problems as well as guiding students in engaging with these problems, it requires engagement with the subject at historical, philosophical, practical, and conceptual levels. Such an engagement not only enriches one’s conceptual understanding of the subject but also its pedagogy.
The forthcoming exposure camp is aimed at sharing our learnings from the Olympiad program. The exposure camp will consist of pedagogical sessions related to concepts in chemistry both in the experimental and theoretical areas related to the chemistry Olympiad.
The participating teachers will be sent some of the past Olympiad problems set for the Indian programme. It is important that participants go through the problems sent and each participant should try to solve at least one problem prior to the camp. It is equally important that participants reflect about the pedagogical aspects of the problem. During the camp, we would discuss participants’ reflections about the problems, both from content and pedagogical perspectives. With learning from the camp, teachers may want to adapt similar approach, for the teaching learning process and assessment in their classrooms.
Interested teachers can apply here by filling in the application form latest by September 11, 2026.
New applications would be given priority over past participants of Chemistry Olympiad Exposure Camps at HBCSE who are applying again.
The list of selected teacher participants will be uploaded on the Olympiad and HBCSE websites by September 18, 2026.
Selected participants will be reimbursed to and fro travel fare as per their entitlement (maximum II-AC train fare).
If you are travelling by air, kindly purchase air tickets only directly from via IRCTC or through M/s Balmer & Lawrie. Please DO NOT use other travel portals like makemytrip, cleartrip, yatra, goibibo, ixigo etc. Even if you are travelling by air, only II-AC fare would be reimbursed, but only on producing travel ticket by appropriate agency and boarding passes.
Food and accommodation in the HBCSE Guest House will be provided to all participants. Kindly note that due to the limited availability, accommodation is provided only for the duration of the camp, and only for the participants and not for any accompanying family members.
