Note accompanying the announcement of the corrected results on 22 September 2017

After the provisional results were announced, it has come to our notice that some students were incorrectly classified in the wrong lists (for e.g., some non-KV students were included in the KV list), thus affecting the result lists that were drawn up. Corrections have been made now and the corrected lists of candidates who have qualified for RMO 2017 are announced below. Please note that the provisional results declared earlier on 15th September 2017 have changed and are no longer valid. Please recheck the relevant list to confirm if you have qualified for RMO 2017.

The following are the corrected lists subject to the decisions taken in respect of the appeals filed in the following manner.

Appeals concerning the evaluation of the answer-sheets must be delivered to iaptprmo2017@gmail.com with cc to prmo@hbcse.tifr.res.in before 5 pm on 25th Sept 2017. Appeals received thereafter will not be considered. Changes based on these appeals, if any, will be declared in the form of separate lists on 28th Sept. 2017. All decisions taken with regard to the appeals shall be final and binding and no further complaints/appeals will be entertained.

PRMO Results — Final

The final results of PRMO 2017 exam are announced below. We have examined all appeals received up to 5 pm on 25th September 2017. Please note that the results of all regions announced on 22nd September 2017 are unchanged with the following two exceptions

  1. PRMO Roll no. MHK0500001 from Maharashtra region has qualified for RMO 2017.
  2.  PRMO Roll no. UPM0340031 has qualified from Uttar Pradesh region instead of UPM0340030 (mistake due to wrong entry of roll number by student).

Therefore with the above changes, the results announced in the files below are valid. (The files themselves are unchanged.)

We had received a number of appeals by email. It will not be possible to reply individually to the appeals. However please consult the responses to the most frequent questions asked, which are included below the regionwise lists.

Please retain your PRMO 2017 Roll no. till INMO 2018

Please note that the RMO exams will be held in the respective regions on October 8, 2017 (Sunday) from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Thank you all for your patience! Despite various problems like floods, the team managed to get the PRMO results out. Being the first time that such an exam was conducted, difficulties may have been faced by students. Hence we have decided to select instead of the top 300 students, the top 500 students (plus those having the same score as the 500th candidate) from each region to appear for the RMO.

The support of IAPT is heartily acknowledged.

Frequently asked questions in the Appeals and Responses

  1. My roll number was on the list announced on 15th September, but was not there on the list announced on 22nd September. Why is this so?

Response: The provisional list announced on 15th September contained errors of classification. As soon as these errors were noticed, corrections were made and the corrected list was put up on 22nd September. The lists announced on 15th September are invalid.

2. My PRMO test centre was a KV school. My score is higher than the KV cut-off. Why is my name not in the KV list?

Response: The KV list is only for students of KV schools, not for students who wrote the exam from a KV test centre.

3. In the list announced on 15th September, I was included and had a high rank. But my name was not there in the corrected list announced on 22nd September. Why is this so?

Response: The numbers next to the roll numbers were not ranks. They were serial numbers and the roll numbers were arranged in alphabetical order not order of merit. The corrected lists are also in alphabetical order and not in order of merit.

Marking Scheme for PRMO 2017 and computation of total score of a candidate

(i) 1 mark each for Q 17, Q 22 and Q 24.

(ii) 1 mark for each correct response for the remaining 27 questions.

(iii) Total score of a candidate is N + 3 where N is the number of questions (other than Q 17, Q 22, Q 24) answered correctly.

Important Information concerning the Mathematics Olympiad Programme:

  1. The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) which is in charge of the mathematical olympiad activity, has entrusted its implementation to the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) to be carried out in coordination with the MO-Cell and the National Coordinator appointed by NBHM, supervised by a Committee constituted by NBHM. All major policy decisions with regard to the Mathematical Olympiads programme are made with the concurrence of NBHM. The following MAJOR changes are announced this year.

  2. A pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) exam will be held on August 20, 2017 at different centres all over India. In order to be eligible for the RMO it is mandatory that students qualify through this centrally administered PRMO. No other independently administered examinations will be recognized from this year onwards.

  3. Eligibility: All Indian students who are born on or after August 1, 1998 and, in addition, are in Class VIII, IX, X and XI are eligible to appear for the PRMO 2017.

  4. The PRMO will be a machine-correctable test of 30 questions. Each question has an answer which is a number with one or two digits. Sample PRMO questions and Sample OMR sheet showing marked answers can be downloaded from here

  5. The PRMO exam will be organized this year by IAPT (the Indian Association of Physics Teachers), the same association that also organizes the National Standards Examination, which is the first step for participation in the International Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy and Junior Science olympiads. The website for PRMO is available at http://www.iapt.org.in/

  6. A link to a portal is available at the IAPT webpage where schools can register as centres; this portal will be open from May 20 to June 20, 2017. Any school with at least 5 registrations can register on the portal as a “registered centre”. However, the list of approved exam centres will be issued by IAPT. Students who register through a given school which is a registered centre may be re-assigned to another nearby exam centre.

  7. All Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Atomic Energy Central Schools may register as registered centres regardless of the number of students.
  8. The list of registered centres will be available on the IAPT website from June 20, 2017.
  9. Students can approach one of the approved registered centres and through the centre register for the PRMO exam between June 20 and July 25, 2017 for a fee of Rs. 200. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has made its schools available as centres free of cost; for KV students there is a provision to register with payment of a fee of Rs. 100.

  10. A carbon copy of the answersheet (OMR) will be given to the student after the exam; students can check their answers as against the answers which will be uploaded on the HBCSE website.

  11. The top 300 students from each region will be eligible to write the Regional Mathematics Olympiad exam. For the KV, CBSE, JNV schools which have a countrywide coverage, the number to be selected is upto 5 per cent of the number of registrations or 300.

  12. Each regional co-ordinator (including the co-ordinators for the groups KV, CBSE and JNV) will receive the list of students eligible to write RMO by September 15th. Each Regional Co-ordinator shall conduct the RMO in her/his region on October 8th, 2017.

  13. Based on the RMO exam, the final list of 30 top students plus the next 5 girl students will be sent by each regional co-ordinator to HBCSE by November 30, 2017. This should be done after completing re-evaluation (provision for which is mandatory).

  14. HBCSE will announce the list of students eligible to appear for INMO 2018 from all regions by December 07, 2017.

  15. The INMO exam will be held on January 21, 2018 and will be conducted by each regional co-ordinator and the papers sent to HBCSE.

  16. The regional co-ordinators will be sent brochures/posters and will be requested to advertise the information on their webpages or homepages. As there are major changes, students will be unaware of these and the support of Regional co-ordinators in this regard is crucial.

  17. This is a preliminary announcement and more details will be announced and communicated to all regional co-ordinators in the next few days. Regional co-ordinators are requested to circulate the announcement and the weblink widely.

  18. A college / school CAN register students NOT belonging to them.
